"Light, camera, mix". That is how it was at the Elderflower Competition by Thomas Henry. It was about the search for the best drink with the new Elderflower Tonic. It was not only about the mastery of shaker and spoon, but also about cinematic talent.

So it came as a surprise that bartenders were incited to participate in the Elderflower Competition, which is a rare occurrence at the competitions of such kind. From among all nominated mixologists and film enthusiasts the expert jury consisting of Bastian Heuser (Barworkz), Jörg Meyer (Le Lion, Hamburg), Helmut Adam (Mixology), Florian Meimberg (the author of "Tiny Tales" and commercial film director) and Sebastian Brack (Thomas Henry) chose the winner. With his impressive drink, "The Henry", and a perfectly produced and edited video Jochen Hirschfeld took the first place and received the tickets to the Manhattan Cocktail Classic in New York.

The second prize went to Joscha Henningsen and Vera Heimsoth who also show in their video some other uses of the Elderflower Tonic bottle. Thanks to their cocktail "Den lieb ich" (The One I Love) they will go to Bar Convent Berlin 2012. The third prize, won by the Austrian David Meingast with his "New York Hustle", got a Jim Meehan's Bar Roll-Up sponsored by online shop cocktailian.de as a prize.

"We were really excited about how much effort and passion had been put in every single video and drink. Some of the submissions were indistinguishable from professional short films," said Sebastian Brack, the owner of Thomas Henry. So it is not surprising that YouTube click ranking has determined another winner.

It was love at first sight and first drink! The six bar sodas and bitter lemonade of the young German company Henry Thomas took a shine to us. Especially the limited edition Elderflower Tonic that we find to be an extremely refreshing combination of wonderful elderflower aroma and bitter taste of tonic water.

Owing to its fruity flavor mixed with gin (or vodka), even those who usually find gin and tonic too bitter will definitely enjoy the taste.

Thomas Henry was a Manchester pharmacist who perfected a means to inject carbon dioxide into water in 1773 - the date is embossed on the neck of the glass bottle. This brand is actually German and launched last year. Thomas Henry Tonic Water contains no sweetener.
Tasting: Effervescent, lively bubbles. Delicate, floral nose. Creamy, light lemon notes on the palate, lightly quinine dry finish. A well balanced tonic and pleasant enough to drink on its own. Makes a great, perfectly balanced gin and tonic too. 5/5

The naturally cloudy lemonade with green reflex has a bright nose of lemons, zest and oil. On the palate, a good balance of tart lemon, sweetness and bitterness of quinine. Small yet powerful bubbles, medium foaming in the mouth with silky texture and very good length. Due to the zero-tolerance for bitter substances for children this lemonade is recommended for adults. Since recently Thomas Henry has a grapefruit version on the market.

A new newly founded company from Hamburg, named after the pharmacist and chemist Thomas Henry from Manchester / England. In 2010 Sebastian Brack and Norman Sievert called to life more flavor variety in the market. Bitter Lemon tasted particularly well. Unfortunately this can only be purchased thourgh sepcialised dealers , a walk to your bar keeper of choice remains unavoidable.
