FAQ
What is a tonic?
A tonic is a carbonated mixer that adds structure and freshness to drinks.
Its defining feature is quinine‑driven bitterness, complemented by citrus, herbal or fruity notes.
What’s the difference between tonic varieties?
Short answer: tonic is not just tonic.
They differ in bitterness levels, aromatics and in how crisp or rounded your drink becomes.
- Tonic Water: the classic – clear, refreshing, bitter. Works almost everywhere.
- Botanical Tonic: more aromatic, milder, deeper. Bitterness is smooth rather than loud.
- Cherry Blossom Tonic: floral + fruity without sweetness – flavourful, not candy.
- Wild Berry: round, fruity, with aperitif vibes.
- Bitter Lemon: citrus meets bitterness – direct, bright, refreshing.
In the end: your drink decides. And so do you.
Which tonics pair best with which drinks?
Tonic isn’t just a “filler.” Tonic is what turns a good drink into a great one – and yes, the variety matters.
- Tonic Water → the safe base for classics. Perfect for Gin & Tonic when you want it clear and bitter. Currently very popular in Limoncello Tonic.
- Botanical Tonic → aromatic, milder, more depth. Great in Botanical Vermouth Tonic or as a botanical twist in a Botanical Gin & Tonic.
- Cherry Blossom Tonic → floral‑fruity without being playful. Excellent in Bloomy Vermouth or alcohol‑free as a Cherry Espresso Tonic.
- Wild Berry → round, fruity, aperitif‑driven. Clear choice: Lillet Wild Berry.
- Bitter Lemon → citrus meets bitterness, straightforward. Classic: Vodka Lemon. Aperitif: Sarti Lemon.
If you’re unsure: Start with Tonic Water. Everything else falls into place fast.
Are all tonics equally bitter?
No.
Quinine level, sweetness and added aromas determine how present the bitterness is.
Tonic Water is clear and distinctly bitter.
Bitter Lemon adds citrus brightness.
Variants like Botanical Tonic, Cherry Blossom Tonic or Wild Berry bring more aroma into the glass and feel softer as a result.
Does every drink need a tonic?
No.
But many benefit from it.
And sometimes something else works better – gin, for example, works brilliantly with Spicy Ginger Beer.
