What ingredients do I need to make simple cocktails at home?
The good news: you don’t need a fully stocked bar cabinet. Most of our drink recipes work with just a few basics:
- lots of ice
- a good glass
- 1 spirit (or non-alcoholic drink)
- Thomas Henry mixer (e.g. tonic water, spicy ginger beer, ginger ale, soda water)
- and a garnish, if you like.
This is how you can create simple cocktail ideas that still taste like they came from a bar.
What is the difference between a cocktail, a long drink, and a highball?
In short:
Cocktail = often mixed or shaken, more ingredients, more layers
Long drink = spirit + mixer, built directly in the glass
Highball = the clean long drink form: lots of ice, slim, sparkling, great for bars
Most of our cocktail recipes are made for just that: built instead of complicated.
Which drinks are suitable for which occasions?
This isn’t a personality test—but yes, drinks can read your mood.
- Aperitif & dinner starter: tangy, light, bitter-fruity
- Daydrinking: light, often alcohol-free, uncomplicated
- Brunch: fresh, not too heavy
- Evening: more depth, more spice
Just use our filters in the cocktail list (e.g., aperitif, brunch, evening) and click your way in.
